As part as the implementation of the recommendation of the Higher Council of the Foundation, which was held in Fez in its second session on Saturday and Sunday 24 and 25 Safar 1440, corresponding to November 3 and 4, 2018, and related to conducting a competition in the memorization, recitation and psalmody of the Holy Quran.

And based on the positive results achieved on the first session of this competition which final phase was organized in Fez – Kingdom of Morocco – on the 19 and 20 of Ramadan 1440, corresponding to May 25 and 26, 2019.  Among those qualified after the preselection phase conducted by the sections of the Foundation at the level of each country (with the exception of the Ethiopian section), the final phase of the competition knew the participation of 60 participants; 55 were males and 5 were females.

And after the approval of the Foundation’s Higher Council in its third session held in Fez on 20 and 21 Rabi al-Thani 1441, corresponding to December 17 and 18, 2019.

The General Secretariat of the Foundation organizes the second edition of the Quran memorization and recitation competition of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema, in a virtual format, on the 18, 19, 20 and 21 of Ramadan 1442, corresponding to 1, 2, 3 and 4 May 2021.

A jury composed of expert Oulema and professors from Morocco and some other African countries will be present in Fez to evaluate the participants.

It is reported that the competition was scheduled to be held in the Republic of Gabon in late March 2020, but the repercussions of the Corona pandemic prevented that.

Objectives of the competition:

The competition aims to:

  • Preserve the Holy Quran through memorization and recitation.
  • Link young people and African Muslim youth to the Holy Quran and encouraging them to memorize it and recite it.
  • Encourage the Holy Quran memorization with the application of the psalmody rules.

Categories of the competition:

This competition is conducted either at the section level or in its final phase in three categories:

  • Entire memorization with recitation in the Riwayat of Warsh An Naafe.
  • Entire memorization with recitation in the Riwayat chosen by the candidate (styles of Quranic recitation).
  • Quran psalmody (Tajweed) with the memorization of at least five Ahzab from the Quran.

Dates of the competition:

The Preselection phase of the competition took place at the level of the Foundation’s sections, during the last week of Jumada Al-Awal 23 to 30 Jumada Al-Awal 1441, corresponding to January 18 to 25, 2020, and a winner was chosen from each of the three categories of the competition at the level of each country.

Awards of the competition:

Awards will be allocated to the first three winners in each category of the competition, with an incentive bonus allocated to the three winners in the Complete memorization with recitation in the Riwayat of Warsh An Naafe category.

Other honorary and incentive awards will also be allocated.
