The role of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema in Achieving Spiritual Security in Africa – PRESS RELEASE

The Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema – the Republic of Uganda Section – is organizing an academic symposium on the topic: “The role of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema in Achieving Spiritual Security in Africa”, on 14 and 15 Shaaban 1445H, corresponding to the 24-25th February 2024, in the capital city, Kampala.

The organization of this symposium is part of measures to shed light on the pioneering role played by the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema and its efforts to enhance spiritual security in Africa, in accordance with the vision of its founder and President, the Commander of the Faithful, His Majesty King Mohammed VI – may God protect him. One of the loftiest goals set by His Majesty for the Foundation is to pool and coordinate the efforts of Muslim religious scholars, in Morocco and in the rest of Africa, to introduce, spread and consolidate the tolerant values of Islam and thus contribute to stability and development in these countries.

This academic symposium, to be moderated by eminent scholars from the Kingdom of Morocco and fellow oulema from the sister nation, the Republic of Uganda, also aims to contribute to enhancing religious and cultural bonds between the two countries, cooperate to strengthen the foundations of the Islamic identity, and enhance spiritual security within Ugandan society, making sure it is open to other religious beliefs.

The symposium will tackle four main topics:

The first topic: “The efforts of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema to enhance spiritual security in African countries”;

The second topic: “The importance of consolidating the common immutable religious values to achieve spiritual security in Uganda and other African countries”;

The third topic: “The impact of Fiqh and Sufi schools on consolidating the values of security and peace in African societies”;

The fourth topic: “The role of African women religious scholars in establishing spiritual security and promoting stability in society”.

Pondering on the outcomes of the Foundation’s action and the impacts achieved through the various scientific and cultural activities that are implemented, one can clearly see signs that spiritual security is being enhanced and that the concepts and substance of common religious values are being strengthened. This is attested by the fact that the issue of consolidating common religious values is one of the main questions being addressed through various academic activities, be it at the level of the Foundation or at that of its sections. Thus, there has been significant convergence around a number of matters and options which have effectively contributed to ensuring the spiritual security of African Muslim communities. This has also led to harmonious, interactive societal dialogue which has fostered common ground that helps protect and enhance unity and cohesion and promotes the feeling of belonging as well as that of identity. These achievements and policy choices are a reflection of the efforts exerted, and the initiatives undertaken, by the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema, particularly with respect to the mission of placing the Moroccan religious model at the disposal of the sister African countries that share the Kingdom of Morocco’s religious principles and its commitment to immutable spiritual values.

It should be pointed out that the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema has forty-eight sections covering all parts of the African continent. They all work with the Foundation to promote the values of tolerance and coexistence, thus serving security, stability, and development in African countries, while fully respecting the laws and regulations in force in those countries.
