Rwanda – An international scholarly conference on the theme: “Moral Values in Islam and Their Impact on Social Peace in Africa”

The Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema, in cooperation with the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in the Republic of Rwanda, is organizing an international scholarly conference on the theme: “Moral Values in Islam and Their Impact on Social Peace in Africa” on July 19, 2025, in the Rwandan capital, Kigali.
This conference embodies the vision of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema, under the far-sighted leadership of its founder, the Commander of the Faithful, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him. It aims to entrench spiritual peace and promote Islamic values as a foundation for building African societies on the principles of coexistence, tolerance, and cooperation among African scholars, in a way that strengthens the values of moderation and balance, and counters manifestations of extremism, radicalism, and division.
The conference sheds light on the central role of moral values in Islam, considering them as a core essence of the religion and an effective tool for the purification of the soul, the building of cohesive societies, and the safeguarding of peace, stability, and development. Islam places justice, mercy, benevolence, truthfulness, tolerance, loyalty, and solidarity at the heart of its civilizational message for human development, social reform, and balancing individual and collective needs.
The Rwandan experience will also be a key focus during the proceedings, as it stands as a successful African model for reconstruction, consolidation of stability, and national security, relying on reconciliation, justice, shared memory, and the culture of coexistence and belonging. This experience confirms the importance of investing in moral and cultural values to achieve national unity and sustainable development.
The conference also aims to explore ways to implement the moral values of Islam in African contexts to address security and social challenges. It will present successful models of how these values can be employed to build community cohesion. It further seeks to enhance coordination among scholars and thinkers to develop a unified religious discourse that serves the causes of unity, peace, and development on the continent, and shields societies from tendencies of extremism and disintegration.
This conference represents a notable spiritual and academic milestone, strengthening the bonds between scholars from the Kingdom of Morocco and their counterparts in the Republic of Rwanda, while deepening collective awareness of the importance of Islamic moral values in shaping a shared future based on dignity, moral belonging, moderation, and sustainable peace.
It is worth noting that the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema has 48 branches across the African continent and works closely with the central Foundation to promote values of tolerance and coexistence in support of peace, stability, and development in African countries, in full respect of the laws and regulations in force in each country.
